Junk emails that come from my own email address?

January 20th, 2010 admin Leave a comment Go to comments

I keep getting junk emails in my BT Yahoo Inbox and in Windows mail inbox which say they have been sent from my own email address. I contacted BT a while ago and they suggested resetting my password which I did. This stopped the problem for a while but it has now started again. Any suggestions please. I have now added my own email address to blocked senders as a temporary measure.

It’s called “spoofing”, and changing your password won’t keep you from being spoofed
Spoofing is the “forgery” of an address, to hide the identity of the sender, and is usually done by an Automatic Spamming system, that blindly and randomly, runs through addresses in sequence.
It’s not actually coming from or thru your account. (see in your sent folder)
One type that’s called “Self Spamming”–(go figure)–appears to be coming “from” and going “to” the same address.

Anti-spam experts say—-There’s nothing you can do, except delete them (unopened of course). They are a nuisance, but harmless and don’t last long.

If you spam them–you’ll only be spamming your own address.
Blocking your own address , as you’ve done–is a temporary fix —but maybe that’s all you need. They move on quickly—so say the “experts”.
